How to Read an Abandoned Baby Pattern

A doji isolated by gaps on both sides -- rare in practice, but one of the more decisive reversal signals when it appears.

3-candle pattern · Rare, strong reversal

An abandoned baby is a candle, followed by a doji that gaps completely away from it (no overlap in range at all), followed by a third candle that gaps back in the opposite direction from the doji. The doji effectively sits isolated between two gaps.

The two clean gaps on either side of an isolated doji make this a genuinely rare pattern in real price data, but that rarity is part of why it’s taken seriously when it does appear — it takes a real shift in sentiment (often around news) to produce gaps on both sides of a single session.
