3-candle pattern · Rare reversal
A tri-star pattern is three consecutive doji candles, with the middle one gapping away from the other two. Like the abandoned baby, its rarity is part of what makes it notable — three separate periods of indecision in a row, with a gap at the pivot point.
The pattern generally shows up after an extended trend and is read as a sign the trend has become fully exhausted — not one session of hesitation, but three straight. Because true tri-stars are uncommon, most traders won’t see one in a given instrument for a long stretch of time.
This article is educational only and isn’t a recommendation to trade any particular instrument or pattern — no candlestick pattern works in isolation. See the full candlestick guide for how patterns like this one fit into a broader approach.
